DIABE TES Living Longer Good news: The death rate among people with diabetes in the United States fell 23 percent between 1997– 1998 and 2003–2004, a study found. That includes a drop of 40 percent in deaths from heart disease. Trained interviewers asked more than 100,000 people across the nation about their health every few years, and researchers kept track of the participants. While the death rate for people without diabetes also decreased, the decline was greater for people with diabetes, shrinking the health gap. The results suggest that diabetes care is improving, the researchers say. Longer lives for people with diabetes will also mean a need for more health care providers trained in diabetes care. source: Diabetes Care, published online May 22, 2012 Living Longer Good news: The death rate among people with diabetes in the United States fell 23 percent between 1997– 1998 and 2003–2004, a study found.
